Ep 10: Co-operatives at the Crossroads

South Africa has close to 200,000 registered co-operatives, yet very few operate sustainably or create meaningful work. In this episode, we take a look at co-operatives as a form of enterprise, and why co-operatives are struggling to fulfil their promise, and what can be done about it. We’re joined by Dr Shane Godfrey (https://www.linkedin.com/in/shane-god...) , Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town and CENTROW Associate. Together with Jan Theron, Shane recently co-authored a report on the state of Co-operatives in South Africa, and joins us to discuss their findings. We also consider what it would take for co-operatives to play a more meaningful role in enterprise development and the world of work in South Africa.
