Ukrainian drones are capable of hitting targets 1,500-2,000 kilometers away, forcing Moscow to deploy its air defense systems across a vast territory. The attacks are targeting refineries, depots, ports, airports, and strategic infrastructure, aiming to damage the Russian economy and undermine the population's morale. On the ground, however, Russian forces continue to advance, albeit slowly. Odessa remains a target of great strategic and symbolic value for the Kremlin, but Battisti believes Moscow lacks the necessary capabilities to conquer it. The attacks on Black Sea ports are primarily aimed at disrupting trade and damaging Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians during the winter. Diplomatically, the general sees little chance of a truce in the short term. In his view, Russian President Vladimir Putin has gone too far to abandon his territorial objectives in Donbas. Battisti also emphasizes the growing cooperation between China and Russia, with the supply of electronic components and materials to Moscow, including for use in the military industry. The winter, the general concludes, could favor a new escalation rather than an acceleration of negotiations, while the civilian population, the economy, and infrastructure continue to suffer the most serious consequences of the conflict.
