After more than two weeks of anxiety, Umi recovered her son's motorcycle, which had been stolen by a mugger. The police found the motorcycle and arrested the perpetrator—who turned out to be a former police officer. "Thank God, I'm so happy. Thank you to the police officers who acted quickly to get my son's motorcycle back," said Umi Fitria, Friday (10/24/2025). This young mother still vividly remembers the panic she felt when she heard the news that her son had been the victim of a mugging. "I didn't know exactly what happened. Suddenly, my son came home crying and said his motorcycle had been mugged," Umi recalled softly. Umi explained that the perpetrator claimed to be a police officer from Pacitan to convince her son to stop on the road. "Upon hearing this, I immediately took my son to the Dongko Police Station to report the incident," she added. The Perpetrator is an Ex-Police Officer Dismissed by the Maluku Regional Police The Trenggalek Police Criminal Investigation Unit has successfully uncovered a robbery case involving a student with the initials SPR (15), a 10th-grade student at Panggul Islamic Vocational School. Police have named Egi Priyatno (37) as the perpetrator. Egi is a former National Police officer whom the Maluku Regional Police dismissed with a dishonorable discharge (PTDH) in December 2024 for serious violations. Trenggalek Police Chief, AKBP Ridwan Maliki, explained that Egi carried out his crime on the Dongko-Panggul Highway on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at around 1:30 p.m. WIB. "The perpetrator intercepted the victim in the middle of the road, grazed him, and then stole his cell phone and motorcycle. While fleeing, the perpetrator abandoned his motorcycle at the scene," Maliki explained. The perpetrator's Yamaha Vega R motorcycle helped investigators track down his identity. After fleeing to Jakarta, police found Egi in Cilincing, North Jakarta, where he lived. The police then arrested him and confiscated the victim's stolen motorcycle. Gratitude and Hope of the Victim's Parents Although the trauma still lingers, Umi remains grateful that her son is safe and has his motorcycle returned. She acknowledged that the police's swift action meant a lot to her family. "Our family expresses our gratitude. Hopefully, a case like this won't happen again, especially to schoolchildren," she hoped. Umi believes the police's swift action has provided peace of mind for her family and served as a reminder that crime can happen at any time, even though the Dongko area has long been known as safe. "I hope the government and police will patrol the quiet streets more frequently. Schoolchildren need assurance of safety when they return home," she concluded. Egi Priyatno is now facing Article 365 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code concerning theft with violence and faces a maximum prison sentence of nine years.
