Four Victims, Countless Questions — The Leighton Avenue Murders

On the night of January 10, 2016, a fire broke out inside a home on Leighton Avenue in Rochester, New York. But when firefighters entered the smoke-filled attic, they made a horrifying discovery: Four people — Michael Royal (28), his fiancée Jennifer Leasure (29), LaChelle “Peanut” Powell (22), and Michael Adams (45) — were found bound, shot, and left in a scene investigators would later describe as one of the most brutal they had ever encountered. This was not an accident. It was a targeted attack. The victims had been restrained with duct tape. Some were shot multiple times. Their throats were cut. And the fire appears to have been deliberately set,  likely to destroy evidence. Despite a massive investigation involving dozens of interviews across multiple social circles, phone records and geofence data, and extensive forensic analysis …no one has ever been charged. Investigators believe the motive may be tied to disputes involving drug activity, stolen money, or personal conflicts, particularly involving Michael Royal and LaChelle Powell. But even with strong theories, no direct evidence has been enough to bring charges. One chilling detail stands out: A fingerprint found on the duct tape suggests one of the victims may have been forced to restrain the others. Nearly a decade later, the case remains unsolved.
