Larry, The Downing Street Cat - New Manservant on his way
A brief update from the nation's busiest civil servant. It appears my prospective new manservant has done the entirely unexpected thing of voting for himself to become the next Prime Minister. Confidence, I've discovered over the years, is remarkably common among politicians. Bambi Burnham has confessed on social media that it's all "starting to feel very real." One imagines that's because it is. There is even talk that he could be effectively confirmed by the end of today, provided enough people decide that further arguing is simply too exhausting. Naturally, this means I must begin preparing the Official Guide to Serving Larry. It is a substantial document. Chapter One: Breakfast. Chapter Two: Elevenses. Chapter Three: Lunch. Chapter Four: Afternoon Tea. Chapter Five: Supper. Appendix A covers acceptable menu options, ranging from tuna and salmon to turkey, together with an explanation of why yesterday's favourite meal is today's unforgivable insult. There is also an important section on sleeping arrangements, detailing my scheduled naps in the morning, late morning, afternoon, early evening, and, where circumstances demand, between all of those. The Prime Minister's diary may be busy, but it must never interfere with mine. Training a new servant into acceptable standards is never a quick process. Some take weeks. Others take months. A few never quite grasp that opening doors is not merely a courtesy but a constitutional obligation. Still, one remains optimistic.
