Larry, The Downing Street Cat - #Caturday

Seeing as London continues to resemble the inside of an overenthusiastic pizza oven, I have exercised what I believe historians will one day recognise as exemplary judgement by remaining almost entirely indoors. Consequently, there is precious little fresh footage of me. Even a cat has standards, and fainting theatrically on hot paving stones isn't among them. Fortunately, I have neither starved nor dehydrated. My recent appeals for provisions appear to have landed on sympathetic ears. The catering has been entirely satisfactory, and I see no reason to alter a strategy that is yielding such dependable results. It's all rather in-between at the moment. Westminster has settled into that curious lull where everyone is either leaving, arriving, or pretending not to be doing either. Keir, who still seems faintly astonished that he is actually going, has been quietly packing his belongings into boxes. I couldn't help noticing that his LEGO Star Wars collection has disappeared from its usual spot. A pity. I had been hoping to launch one or two carefully judged surprise inspections from the edge of the table before his departure. Nothing says "fond farewell" quite like spending an evening searching for a tiny plastic lightsaber under the sofa. It would have given him something to remember me by while reassembling the galaxy. Still, he wasn't a bad chap. His heart was generally in the right place, even if charisma occasionally seemed to have caught the wrong train. Then again, in modern politics, personality often appears to count for considerably more than competence, a thoroughly puzzling state of affairs to those of us who have built successful careers by sleeping through most meetings. While I await England's match against Norway this evening, I thought I'd spare you further commentary on human affairs and instead present a few more rather splendid photographs of Britain's most consistently employed civil servant. Have a splendid weekend. Stay cool, stay calm, and if you're fortunate enough to have air conditioning, kindly remember those of us relying on thick stone walls, strategic napping, and the occasional bowl of chilled water.
