He Moved to Japan Alone with One Dream|Now He's a Master Eel Chef
An American man came to Japan with a dream — but without the language. This is Daniel’s story. Inspired by anime, he moved to Japan and began working at a small eel shop in Kobe. At first, he struggled to communicate, understand Kansai dialect, and keep up with the fast-paced kitchen. But through hard work, patience, and the kindness of the people around him, Daniel grew into a skilled eel craftsman and a trusted member of the shop. Today, he prepares premium Japanese eel dishes, serves customers with confidence, and plays an important role in the local community. This documentary follows a day in his life — from selecting live eels in freezing winter temperatures to grilling them over charcoal, serving guests, and sharing laughter with coworkers who feel like family. More than a job, Daniel found a place where he belongs. If you are interested in Japanese craftsmanship, food culture, and human stories that cross borders, we hope you enjoy this film.
