The Truth About "Push and Pull" — The Wave of Tension That Organizes the Body

What does "push and pull" really mean in human movement? It may be much more than simply applying or releasing force. Through careful observation of the body, it can feel as though superficial muscles create outward force (push), while the deep muscular system continuously gathers the body inward (pull). Rather than opposing each other, these two forces appear to form a subtle wave that organizes posture, breathing, and movement into a unified whole. In this video, I explore this idea through the perspective of *Dynamic Tensegrity* and propose "Push and Pull" as a practical model for understanding body mechanics. I also discuss how this principle may appear across different movement traditions, including Aikido's Torifune exercise, walking, Tai Chi, and breathing practices, suggesting that many seemingly different methods may share the same underlying organizational principle. This presentation is based on personal observation and exploration of bodily experience. It should be understood as a working hypothesis rather than an established scientific theory or a definitive explanation of any martial art or movement system. If you're interested in body mechanics, posture, breathing, deep muscles, martial arts, mindfulness, or embodied awareness, I hope this exploration offers you a new perspective.
