The Southlands Suite | The Rings of Power (Original Soundtrack) by Bear McCreary

The Southlands was actually one of my favorite plotlines in the show, given how the stakes felt more tangible and the scenarios the characters were in against Adar and his orcs was a lot more engaging. Their theme perfectly fits the farm folk, with a focus on the nyckelharpa and hardinger fiddle for the instrumentation and atmosphere of the Southlands. The motif/melody of the Southlands are actually the inverse notes of Sauron's theme, which begs two questions; are the Southlanders still aligned with Morgoth, and is Halbrand not who he seems? The latter is yes, but the former is answered throughout the expansion and thematic growth of the Southlands theme. It's heartfelt and personal, yet the darker side of the Southlanders rears it's head when the instrumentation becomes more twisted to match the threat of Sauron and Adar, as well as Waldreg and the defiant group of Southlanders.
