Two years after the accident that killed a truck driver in São Paulo, the mother of Fernando Sastre, the driver of the car involved in the collision, spoke for the first time. Daniela Medeiros denied trying to remove her son from the scene to avoid his arrest and stated that she acted in a state of shock. She also read a letter written by Fernando in prison, in which he acknowledges his recklessness, apologizes to the victim's family, and assures that he never intended to kill Ornaldo da Silva Viana. According to the forensic report, Fernando was driving at over 150 km/h when he collided with the truck, which was within the speed limit. Ornaldo died in the accident, and a friend of Fernando suffered serious injuries. Daniela admitted that her son was irresponsible but rejected the charge of intentional homicide and questioned the preventive detention, which has already lasted more than two years. The defense argues that the case should be classified as negligent homicide and awaits a decision on an appeal. The Public Prosecutor's Office maintains the charge of homicide with implied malice. The trial by jury is scheduled for October. At the end of the interview, Daniela apologized to Ornaldo's family and stated that she prays daily for the victim's family.
