Wie Walter Röhrl den Opel Commodore mit Schneewänden bremste

A big Opel, boiling brake fluid, and Walter Röhrl in his first rally as a professional. In 1973, Röhrl entered the Monte Carlo Rally in a yellow Opel Commodore B GS/E. The heavy six-cylinder engine was anything but an ideal rally car – and the brakes soon failed on the snow-covered mountain roads. Röhrl used extreme drift angles, engine braking, and even snowbanks to slow the Commodore. But hidden behind one of these snowbanks was a granite fountain. In this video, we tell the story of the Opel Commodore, from its claim to the left lane of the Autobahn to that incredible effort at the 1973 Monte Carlo Rally. How do you see the Commodore today: just as a more luxurious Rekord – or as one of the most daring Opels of its time? #OpelCommodore #WalterRöhrl #RallyeMonteCarlo #OpelClassics #Oldtimers #DriftGarageStories 00:00 Driving through Monte Carlo without brakes 00:50 Opel wants the left lane 02:27 From the GS to the GS/E 04:12 The yellow Commodore and the young Röhrl 06:12 When the brakes fail 08:35 The final meters to Monaco 10:21 What the Commodore truly proved 11:35 The End
