Ecco perché la Nuova DELTA è stata la Lancia più INCOMPRESA di sempre

A used car costing less than €5,000, comfortable, powerful, and fuel-efficient? Today, the manufacturer offers a Lancia Delta 3 (2008) with its exclusive 1.9 Twin Turbo Multijet diesel engine, delivering 190 hp and, above all, a whopping 400 Nm of torque: sacrilege or evolution? We'll see together how it's made, how it handles on the road, its fuel consumption, and whether today, more than ten years later, it's a good deal to buy the third series. The history of the Lancia Delta 3 is peculiar, to say the least: no longer a compact, boxy car with a focus on 1990s sportiness, but an elegant, spacious, and decidedly more comfort-focused hatchback. An ambitious project, Lancia conceived to combine premium style with impressive technical features, such as the famous 1.9 Twin Turbo Multijet, one of the group's most successful diesel engines. Externally, the Delta (2008), inspired by the Granturismo Stilnovo concept, is immediately recognizable by its smooth lines and large chrome grille at the front, a controversial detail that still makes it unique in the compact car landscape today, and which will also be found on its little sister, the Ypsilon. The elongated headlights, rounded rear end, and "small flagship" shape are elements that clearly distinguish it from its rivals of the time. Inside, the 2010 Delta is a reminder of why Lancia placed such a premium on elegance. The materials are pleasant, the finish is meticulous (even Poltrona Frau-quality on the Platino models), and the space is truly generous, for both front and rear passengers. The sliding second-row seat allows for increased comfort or trunk volume as needed. The driving position is comfortable and touring, typical of a Lancia of the time, while the technological equipment—though now outdated—already included navigation, dual-zone climate control, and a multimedia system that was quite comprehensive for the time. Even a Bose sound system and adaptive headlights were available as options. But the star of the show is its engine: the 190 hp 1.9 MJT Twin Turbo diesel is still a technical gem today. Two turbos work together to deliver plenty of low-end torque and a solid push when you step on the pedal. According to the spec sheet, the top speed is 222 km/h, while the 0-100 km/h sprint takes 7.9 seconds. It's a powerful, full-bodied, and surprisingly flexible diesel, capable of giving the Delta a much livelier character than its elegant appearance suggests. At the same time, the 1.9 Multijet's fuel consumption remains low if you drive carefully. On the road, the Delta 1.9 Twin Turbo performs well: comfortable, stable, and geared more toward comfort than sportiness, the engine still manages to deliver some satisfaction on mixed roads. Soundproofing is good, the steering is light and precise, and the overall ride is very pleasant, especially on long journeys where the car shows its best features. The transmission in this case is a 6-speed manual, but a 6-speed sequential gearbox was also available; not the sportiest, but precise enough, and paired with a soft clutch pedal. The braking system is surprisingly generous for this type of car, and the pedal is just the right amount of sensitive. Prices on the used market today can vary greatly depending on the car's condition, and considering the unique nature of the engine, it's always advisable to check the service and maintenance history. Decently maintained 2008 Deltas can easily be bought for less than €5,000! What do you think of this 190 HP Lancia Delta 1.9 Twin Turbo Multijet? Let me know in the comments!
