525. Big Bloom Blowout—A Cacophony Of Color That Works!!!
Hi guys! I couldn't resist that color palette from video 524 and knew I wanted to do another fluid art big bloom blowout; this time with a little experiment! In one of my classes at the Fluid Art Boutique in Dublin, we played with the idea of spinning out the canvas while simultaneously blowing out the paint with a hairdryer. It was a little bit tricky but great fun, and I attempted it in this video but think I chickened out a bit so I didn't really get the movement I wanted. I will definitely try a "spin to win" again! This color palette is a keeper, and using Anthraquinone Blue on top of a neon color like TLP's Show Pony created great contrast. I also liked the pairing of this painting with the gold floater frame, although the black version is very dramatic. Let me know which on you prefer, and thanks for watching! P.S. PATREON: / waterfallacrylics THE RECIPE: House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: PPG MultiPro in Eggshell from Home Depot, or Color To Go Extra White in Satin from any Sherwin Williams store. For this painting I used Glidden Essentials in Semi-Gloss White from Home Depot. Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator color: You’ll need: Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); Infinity Semi-Gloss Base C Untinted (Lowe's) and JoSonja Gloss Varnish OR Minwax Polyacrylic Gloss. I use a quart measuring cup (HD + get a lid). Mix up 12 oz. of the Behr 8300; 6 oz. of the Infinity, and 4 oz of varnish or the water-based polyacrylic to make 22 ounces of pouring medium. Stir well. NOTE: If your Behr is thin, you may not need the varnish so add a little at a time to get your desired consistency. This recipe is a guideline depending on the viscosity of the untinted house paint. Use the colors and brands of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix: Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium; mix well. Recommend a Covid mask to mix. For any brand fluid or high flow acrylics: I put 2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well. For tube paint (medium or heavy body paint), I added an 1/2 ounce of paint (1/2 teaspoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) OR water, and stir well. Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Deep Gold, 2.5 -1 ratio Australian Floetrol to paint.
