JAKARTA, KOPAS.TV - The Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture outlined the state of national food security and the government's steps to address the dry season and potential El Niño in 2026. The Ministry of Agriculture stated that Indonesia has successfully increased rice production by around 4 million tons, with national stocks reaching 5.3 million tons. This achievement is supported by various government policies, ranging from improving the distribution of subsidized fertilizers, setting profitable grain prices for farmers, land optimization, rice field development programs, and strengthening irrigation and pumping systems. To anticipate drought, the government has prepared various mitigation measures, such as distributing tens of thousands of water pumps, providing drought-resistant seeds, mapping drought-prone areas, and optimizing reservoirs and ponds. The Ministry of Agriculture also urged farmers not to delay planting and to utilize agricultural technology to maintain productivity. Amidst abundant national rice stocks, the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that several neighboring countries, including Malaysia, have requested rice imports from Indonesia. The government is currently reviewing various aspects before making a decision regarding rice exports.
