I encourage you to read and purchase: https://powojnie.sklep.pl Moving on to the topic of the episode: After making a film about Hiroshima, which was completely destroyed following a nuclear attack, I decided it would be worth talking about another metropolis that was deeply affected by the war, namely Warsaw. Our capital, especially on the left side of the Vistula River, became a wasteland of rubble. The Germans essentially exterminated this part of the city. In some districts, most buildings were uninhabitable. Polish communists, led by Bolesław Bierut, doubted whether the city would ever be rebuilt. The city was saved by Stalin's decision, who believed that the reconstruction of Warsaw would increase the popularity of the Kremlin-imposed government. In the following years, the city was rapidly rebuilt. New streets and buildings were built. The pace was dizzying, and the architectural and road solutions were innovative. Among the largest projects, the W-Z Route was built. More on this in the latest episode. The materials used in the film come from the archives of the Polish Press Agency (PAP) and the National Digital Archives, as well as the Oral History collections of the DSH and the Karta Center.
