Crossing California's Asbestos Wilderness to Reach a Ghost Town

Join me as I travel by Jeep across California's remote Diablo Range through the Clear Creek Management Area, a unique recreation area where permits are required because of naturally occurring asbestos. Following Clear Creek through rugged canyons and steep mountain terrain, we climb narrow shelf roads to spectacular overlooks before descending into the historic mining district of New Idria. Once the second-largest mercury producer in California, New Idria played an important role during the Gold Rush era before being abandoned. Today the ghost town is part of an EPA Superfund site, leaving behind fascinating reminders of California's mining history. In this adventure you'll experience remote off-road trails, mountain passes, dramatic shelf roads, historic mining sites, ghost town exploration, and aerial drone views of one of California's most unusual landscapes. I enjoy exploring remote locations which are rarely, if ever visited, always looking for remote locations that I imagine no other human has ever visited. If you are interested in remote trails, historical routes, ghost towns, abandoned mining camps, beautiful desert and mountain scenery, then this is a channel for you.
