You'll see thousands of those mysterious bunkers dotting the desert as far as the eye can see. This little patriotic town has a story like no other.Then we pull off at the Walker Lake Day Use Area, a massive desert lake sitting right at the base of the mountains. It's one of those places that makes you say "wait... THIS is in Nevada?" Beautiful spot to stretch the legs and take it all in.From there it's on to Yerington, Nevada — a classic small farm and copper mining town with real backroads charm — before we head up to the big one: Fort Churchill State Historic Park!Fort Churchill was built way back in 1860 to protect early settlers and the Pony Express riders coming through the Nevada Territory. Today the adobe ruins still stand out there in the desert, and walking through them is like stepping straight back into the Old West.
