Climate change presents particular pressures for women, as they shoulder the responsibility of double roles - as pastoralists caring for livestock and landscapes, and as primary care taker of families and communities. This directly impacts their labour burden and thus social wellbeing, when they are forced to go longer distances in search of water and food for their herds and families. Yet Judith also highlights something deeply important: women are not only affected by climate change — they are also key innovators in responding to it. She reminds us how vital it is for pastoralist women to come together through gatherings such as this one, to share their knowledge, experiences, and strategies for addressing one of the most urgent challenges of our time.
