A Night Alone Above the Lake District | The Best View Yet?

In this solo wild camping adventure, I head high above the Lake District for a peaceful night on Haystacks. Starting from Honister Pass Slate Mine, I make my way towards Haystacks, passing Dubs Hut, Innominate Tarn, Blackbeck Tarn, and some incredible mountain views along the way. Some views stay with you forever… and this might just be my favourite one yet. This trip was extra special because I was trying out my new tent, the MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2, which has honestly been my dream tent since I first started wild camping. Getting to finally pitch it in the Lake District, surrounded by mountains and tarns, made the whole experience feel even more special. After a hot and steep hike, I found a secluded little pitch near Haystacks and cooked dinner on the summit with one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. The tarn below, the surrounding peaks, and the golden evening light made it feel like such a peaceful and unforgettable night in the fells. The weather forecast had predicted lightning that night, so I was a little unsure what the evening would bring. Thankfully, the weather app got it wrong. Instead of storms, rain, or lightning, I had a surprisingly warm and still night in the mountains, with no wind at all. I didn’t get the sunrise I was hoping for the next morning because it was cloudy, but it was still a calm and warm morning on Haystacks. On the way back, I went in search of Warnscale Bothy. I did find it from above, but decided not to go down as it was busy with people who had clearly stayed there overnight, and I didn’t want to disturb them.
