I've been reading, watching and hearing about the amazing winter coarse and match fishing available in Hereford for many years, but only recently found the perfect excuse to spend another two days away from home, while spending loadsamoney on petrol, a hotel, food, bait and day tickets! Neil Wayte, or Nelly to his friends, was due a big birthday and he's another angler who's always dreamed about casting into the River Wye as it flows through the city of Hereford. Because in the colder months, this is where huge numbers of quality roach, dace, chub, perch and other species of fish regularly gather - offering club and day ticket anglers some of the BEST RIVER FISHING in the UK. We spent a small fortune on ground bait, maggots, casters, hemp, worms, corn and meat, but I am telling you now it was WORTH IT! The fishing was off the charts and despite sub-zero overnight temperatures, we both enjoyed plenty of bites, nice roach, perch, dace and - for me at least - and unexpected river monster!
