Match fishing's hottest bait… on a gravel pit?!

Summer is finally here! It's early June, just before the start of the UK's coarse fishing river season, and I head to a mature gravel pit armed with one of match fishing's most talked-about baits in recent times. Mussels are nothing new, but they've suddenly grown in popularity in the British match fishing scene, making lots of headlines and often being used to deadly effect when targeting hoards of hungry carp in heavily stocked commercial venues... But how would they fare on a more natural venue, such as the beautiful Stillwater Lakes near Ash in Surrey? They are run by Farnham Angling Society and I decided to give the six-acre Back Lake a go for the first time. Using groundbait feeder tactics to try and outwit the big carp, bream and tench that call this lake home, I wanted to see if these salty seafood favourites could do the business on a lower stock fishery... It's another chilled release from The Magic of Fishing, so sit back, relax and enjoy.
