Catching the Severn's magnificent seven

The 16th of June is the biggest date in all keen river anglers' calendars, signalling a return to fishing running waters after an enforced three-month break (in the UK). I'm no different and my anticipation reached fever pitch as I woke in the middle of night and ventured onto the banks of the stunning River Seven in Shropshire. At 220 miles, it's Britain's longest river, running from mountains in mid-Wales, through the West Midlands and down to the Bristol Channel. Yet, at 53 years of age, I'd never once cast a line on this magnificent and wild waterway. After joining Birmingham Anglers Association (BAA), I decided to put that right, with a three-day angling adventure on their famous Hampton Loade stretch... AKA Barbel Alley! This rugged. varied and productive fishery was one of the most scenic, peaceful and intriguing places I have ever visited, never mind been able to kick off a new season at. So many different species of fish to catch and abundant natural beauty made this an opening day to remember. It's another chilled release from The Magic of Fishing, so sit back, relax and enjoy...
