Yester Castle- A Warlock, Necromancer, and Castle Built by Goblins

Yester Castle, known infamously as the ‘Goblin Ha’ (hall), is a 13th century castle in East Lothian. Built by Hugo de Gifford around 1267 it played host to King Alexander III, whom Gifford was a guardian to, and it changed hands and was mostly occupied by English during the Scottish wars of independence. It was taken by King Edward I in 1298, stormed by Scots under Robert the Bruce in 1308, and again recaptured by the Scots in 1311. Hugo de Gifford gained local notoriety as a wizard who summoned an army of darkness, of ghosts and goblins, to build the castle and it is where he practised his dark acts. This legend has persisted through the centuries The Goblin Hall is very much intact today although visits and access to the castle can be difficult, it is extremely rewarding to explore. Take care as the grounds can be dangerous and steep. Fordun’s and Bower’s Scotichronicon writes: ‘The death occurred of Hugh Gifford, Lord of Yester. Old tales tell that his castle, or at least cellar and keep, were wrought by witchcraft.’ Folklore, myth, and legend has forever given the identity of Yester to a castle built through a pact made with the devil. The area of East Lothian around the village of Gifford is rich in history of witchcraft and spiritism. I made a brief mistake during filming with the name of Hugo de Gifford calling him Hugo de Gourley at one point in the video. Just a mistake which I rectified. Thank you for walking in the footsteps with me. #geniusofbannockburn #history #scottishhistory #robertthebruce #scottishcastles #castles #hauntedcastle #yestercastle #goblins Please subscribe to the channel via the link below;    / @robertthebruce-geniusofban647
