Las CITAS FALSAS del «Quijote»
Few works have had such a profound presence in the collective memory as "Don Quixote de la Mancha." The knight and his squire have become emblems of popular speech, to the point that numerous phrases from the novel circulate both on the street and on social media. However, many of them never appeared in its pages. Simply uttering some of the best-known expressions is enough to cause confusion: "We've run up against the Church" "They bark, therefore we ride" These are phrases that almost everyone identifies with Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. However, the first never had an anticlerical meaning in the novel, and the second doesn't even appear in it. Both are the product of a long process of reinterpretations and errors of memory that have ended up becoming established as authentic proverbs, sustained by the symbolic weight of Cervantes. 🔴 SUBSCRIBE TO DEMIURGO 🔴 / demiurgoliteratura SOCIAL MEDIA 🔵 Twitter 🔵 / demiurgo_lit 🟠 Instagram 🟠 / demiurgo_lit --------------- Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 01:12 Why do fake quotes exist? 03:09 “We’ve run up against the Church” 06:16 “They bark, then we ride on…” 08:34 “Graves are full of those who feasted” 10:18 “Good deeds are never without reward” 11:38 Conclusion 12:59 Credits ----------- RESOURCES (Copyright Disclaimer: Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
