Our First Camping Trip in the Camper We Built Together
After months of designing, welding, fabricating, wiring, testing, and overcoming setback after setback, our father-and-son DIY overland camper is finally ready for its first real adventure! In this video, we take our very first camping trip in the tiny overland camper we built together and head to Oconee State Park in South Carolina for a weekend camping trip with our Cub Scout Pack. This trip wasn't just about camping—it was the moment we finally discovered whether all of the hard work, late nights, and problem-solving had paid off. Getting here wasn't easy. Just days before leaving, our camper suffered a major setback when a leaf spring failed during a test drive. We had to replace the axle, find new springs, modify our wheels, solve trailer brake problems, and race against the clock to make the trip. There were times we honestly weren't sure we'd make it. Once we arrived at Oconee State Park, everything started coming together. We set up camp, explored one of South Carolina's most beautiful state parks, enjoyed the peaceful campground, hiked scenic trails, spent time fishing, relaxed around the campfire, and helped our Cub Scouts experience the outdoors together. This video is about much more than a camper. It's about a father teaching his son new skills, building confidence through hands-on projects, making lifelong memories, and proving that the journey is just as important as the destination.
