Vietnam '69 | Dramatic Frontline Footage Captures Conflict at its Height (1969)

In March 1969, one year after the Tet Offensive, American involvement in the Vietnam War was at its height, with troop numbers nearing peak levels and heavy fighting continuing across South Vietnam. At the same time, the new administration under Richard Nixon was pursuing peace talks with North Vietnam while moving to shift responsibility for the war to the South Vietnamese government. Reporting from across the country, ITN’s Michael Nicholson and cameraman Alan Downes documented the war’s frontline reality and its impact on South Vietnam’s civilian population. Nicholson’s reports recorded a war marked by escalating military intensity and mounting human cost, amid the United States’ search for a political exit from the conflict. They are presented here in full. #Vietnam #VietnamWar #SouthVietnam #SearchAndDestroy #Saigon #MilitaryHistory #ColdWar #RichardNixon #USMarines #VietCong #NorthVietnam #Communism #Communist #Communists #ModernWarfare #WorldHistory #ITNArchive To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/search/...
