How Firebase Gold Became a Death Trap for the Viet Cong in 1967
On March 21, 1967, 2,500 Viet Cong attacked 450 Americans at Firebase Gold. What they didn't expect was Lt. Col. John Vessey and 17 howitzers firing beehive rounds point-blank. By noon, 647 enemy lay dead. This is the Battle of Suoi Tre.
