Drive from Crammag Head to Port Logan in Dumfrise & Galloway
Continuing north from Crammag Head, the road winds through the tranquil countryside of the Rhins of Galloway, where rolling farmland and occasional glimpses of the Irish Sea accompany the journey. With little traffic and wide-open landscapes, this is one of the most peaceful stretches of road in southwest Scotland. Passing through the village of Ardwell, the route continues north on the A716, following the peninsula's gently undulating terrain. Fields bordered by dry-stone walls and hedgerows dominate the landscape, while the coastline remains never far away. Soon we arrive at the small coastal village of Port Logan, a picturesque harbour settlement nestled beside a sheltered bay. Once a busy fishing port, Port Logan is now renowned for its peaceful atmosphere, attractive waterfront and the unique Port Logan Fishpond—the oldest surviving natural marine aquarium in the United Kingdom. Surrounded by rugged coastline and beautiful sea views, it's a popular stopping point for visitors exploring the Rhins of Galloway.
