Need Smaller TIG Electrode - Startup VLog 2026WW23.2 (PA05)

Today I'm testing smaller TIG electrodes while developing a stainless steel and hardwood connection detail for a future Supernova Design Company product. It's a custom kitchen rack aka a CuKi Rack! The original setup was putting too much heat into the workpiece, so I switched to a 0.04" electrode and ran a series of good, bad, and ugly tests to see whether I could reduce heat enough to protect the wood components. The results were encouraging, but I'm starting to think Plan B may be needed. Product development isn't about getting everything right the first time. It's about testing assumptions, learning quickly, and keeping options open. If you're interested in fabrication, woodworking, design-build projects, and the realities of building a small business, follow along as I develop products and custom work here in Portland, Oregon.
