In this video, we explore the new main concourse for commuter and high-speed rail at Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station, one of the largest railway transformations undertaken in Spain in recent years. The new space, open to the public on June 2, 2026, represents the culmination of more than four years of construction and an investment of nearly €560 million. Before its opening, the new facilities were inspected by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente. The renovation of Madrid Chamartín responds to the enormous growth in rail traffic experienced in recent years due to the expansion of the high-speed rail network and the liberalization of rail transport, which has significantly increased the number of passengers. To adapt to this new demand, the station has doubled its capacity for high-speed trains, going from 6 to 12 AVE tracks, in addition to completely modernizing the areas dedicated to commuter, medium-distance, and long-distance services. Key new features include: • A new main concourse of approximately 18,000 m². • New access points to the commuter and high-speed rail platforms. • Seven new access points to the commuter rail tracks. • Improved intermodality with the Metro, buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services. • New retail and dining areas. • A station prepared to handle the growth in rail traffic expected in the coming decades.
