Student Pilot Long Solo Cross Country Cessna 172 - Road to Private Episode 23
Help support my channel by checking out my Patreon at / midlifepilot Total logged time before this flight: 33.7 Hours A milestone in my journey to private pilot - my 150nm long solo cross country flight! This journey takes us northbound from Fairmont (4G7) to Washington County, PA (KAFJ) where we perform a go around and a not so great landing. Then it's off to Allegheny County (KAGC), Latrobe (KLBE), then back home. I took the time to file flight plans through Foreflight for the two long legs of this flight, as well as requested flight following for those legs. I was generally happy with the planning, navigation, communication and other areas of the flights - I was disappointed in my efforts on all landings. I over focused on the amount of wind, carried too much speed, and didn't flare well. This video is slightly longer than some, and the first half of the flight was missing my main camera and in flight audio, so I cut most of that down to the highlights and narrated it. 1:30 - Flight Plan 1:56 - Departing 4G7 2:19 - Overflying KAFJ (Car on runway!) 3:02 - Go Around KAFJ Runway 9 4:03 - Final KAFJ Runway 9 6:05 - Departing KAFJ 7:30 - Final KAGC Runway 10 10:10 - Waiting to Depart KAGC 11:33 - Departing KAGC 16:41 - Carb Heat (Ice Paranoia Check) 17:17 - KLBE ATIS 18:07 - Leaning the Mixture 19:20 - Calling KLBE Tower 24:48 - Descent Checklist 26:32 - Entering Right Downwind KLBE 24 28:23 - Turning Base 29:29 - Turning Final KLBE Runway 24 30:27 - Final Runway 24 33:46 - Departing KLBE 36:40 - Clear of Class D - Calling Approach for Flight Following 38:29 - Leveling off, Carb Ice Check 41:06 - Leaning Mixture (*in the edit you miss me enriching after call) 42:25 - KCKB ATIS 43:13 - Calculating TOD (rough estimate) 43:47 - VFR Descent, position instructions from Approach 45:59 - Field in sight 46:49 - Fairmont CTAF Call 47:05 - Descent Checklist 47:57 - Fairmont CTAF Call 48:19 - Fairmont CTAF Call 49:19 - Entering Downwind 4G7 Runway 23 49:55 - Base Turn 50:25 - Final Turn 50:55 - Final Runway 23 Hey Friends!
