The Lyttelton Tunnel and Port (HD)
The Port Railway Line which runs from Christchurch to the city's port in Lyttelton runs through a long tunnel from the Heathcoth Valley under the Port Hills. The tunnel emerges into the port at the other side and travels through the yard, and passes the massive ships and cargo to the coal unloading plant. This is where coal trains from the West Coast are unloaded. We capture KiwiRail shunting services and coal trains along this section the the line in wet conditions. DXC 5356 also makes an appearance on the coal dumps. At the time it was the only DX in service painted in the Toll Rail livery. These colours have been carried on locomotives since the company brought Tranz Rail back in 2004, enjoy!
