Rescuing a Broken Down Train on the Conway Scenic Railroad

If you are interested in more content from me, my photography can be viewed on Instagram at:   / rail_spike_productions   About this video: On August 5, 2024, the Conway Scenic Railroad’s daily 9:30 AM valley train from North Conway to Conway and back broke down on their way south. The locomotive powering the train, 1751, encountered some sort of unspecified issues while it was leading the consist to Conway. A yard crew powered up locomotive 573 (still wearing the temporary number 1560 from special events for the railroad’s 50th anniversary the weekend before) and ran it out to the location of the broken down train. I filmed this “lite locomotive” move passing me at the Echo Acres Road crossing in North Conway. I then moved over to Conway Scenic’s main railroad depot and yard in downtown North Conway to film the arrival of the rescued train as well as the process of replacing the broken locomotive with a new one from the yard. This move had to be done quickly as their 11:00 AM departure for another trip to Conway with the same equipment was rapidly approaching. Once the rescue arrived, unit 252 emerged from from the yard, moved the 1751 from the valley train consist to another track, and took its place just in time for the 11:00 departure. A job very well done by the folks of the Conway Scenic Railroad.
