Iris ensata has been hybridized in Japan for over 600 years. From feudal times and the Shoguns’ own hybridizers, to modern day and the newest hybrids, we will discuss the variety of forms and patterns available, along with culture and care requirements of these exceptional irises. ABOUT THE PRESENTER Patrick Spence is a past president of the Society for Japanese Irises, operates Cascadia Iris Gardens in King County, Washington, and maintains a large important collection of beardless irises, including Japanese irises.
