The Book of Invasions - Lebor Gabála Érenn (Track 01)
Welcome to a brand new mythic saga on The Fionn's Cradle. We are proud to introduce our new concept album, "Lebor Gabála Érenn", a prog journey through the legendary history of ancient Ireland. --- 📖 THE STORY BEHIND THE LYRICS (AN OVERVIEW OF THE INVASIONS) This track is a musical adaptation of the "Lebor Gabála Érenn" (The Book of the Taking of Ireland), a 12th-century compilation of myth and pseudo-history. The lyrics walk us through the cyclical rise and fall of six distinct waves of settlers: • Part I (Cessair): Before the Great Flood, Noah's granddaughter Cessair leads the very first humans to the uncharted cliffs of Ireland. • Part II (Partholón): After the deluge, Partholón introduces agriculture, clearing the plains and brewing barley, only for his entire civilization to be wiped out by a devastating plague in a single week. • Part III (Nemed): Sailing from the northern mists, the Nemedians face the terrifying oppression of the primordial Fomorians in a brutal war of fire and iron. • Part IV (Fir Bolg): Emerging from enslavement, the fierce Fir Bolg divide the island into its ancient provinces, building proud stone forts and marking their borders with oak and iron. • Part V (Tuatha Dé Danann): Cloaked in mystical smoke and burning clouds, the high-magic Tuatha Dé Danann arrive with their four sacred treasures, defeating the Fir Bolg and fighting under the blazing light of Lugh Lamfhada. • Part VI (Sons of Míl): Finally, the Milesians (the ancestors of the modern Gaels) arrive from Iberia, overcoming the illusions of the gods. Upon their victory, the Tuatha Dé Danann retreat into the hollow hills, leaving the surface to humanity. Though gods, monsters, and kings come and go, the true protagonist of the album remains eternal: the sacred land of Ériu. --- 📜 FULL LYRICS (01 - The Book of Invasions) We crossed the western ocean, before the age of kings Storms surrounded all our ships, and rain consumed the sea Cessair led us through the darkness toward an island wrapped in mist No roads, no walls, no sacred fires... only cliffs beside the sea After the flood new people landed, Partholón raised fields and homes Barley growing through the valleys, smoke rising from the farms Music echoed through the evenings as the island learned our names But sickness travelled through the villages and every fire grew cold Across the western sea, through the wind and rain Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall, but Ériu still remains Then came Nemed and his people, sailing from the northern mist Fighting dark Fomorian armies, rising from the storming sea Iron weapons, burning houses, drums along the rocky shore Black ships moving through the thunder as the ocean roared for war The Fir Bolg claimed the island, dividing every field and hill Raising stones across the valleys, building kingdoms from the earth Strong were all their warrior chieftains, hard as iron, proud as oak Every border marked by battle, every clan defending home Across the western sea, through the wind and rain Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall, but Ériu still remains Then strange fires crossed the ocean and the northern sky grew red The Tuatha Dé Danann were coming, wrapped in cloud and ancient wind They carried treasures into Ireland, sacred spear and shining sword Music followed every footstep as the old gods walked the land Great battles shook the plains of Ériu, Lugh stood burning in the night And the people watched in silence as the heavens filled with fire At last the sons of Míl arrived, crossing over western seas Storms and magic tried to stop them, still they reached the shores of Ériu When the final war had ended, the old gods vanished underground Deep beneath the hills and rivers, far below the roots of stone Across the western sea, through the wind and rain Gods and kings have come and gone, but Ériu still remains We crossed the western ocean, before the age of kings And the sea still tells the story to the wind above the waves --- 🔔 SUBSCRIBE to The Fionn's Cradle to unlock the secrets of Ireland's legendary past.
