Before sending him across the sea to find his father, Aoife binds the boy to 3 Geasa (sacred, magical taboos or vows that a Celtic hero can never break): 1.He must never reveal his name to any man. 2. He must never refuse a challenge from any warrior. 3. He must never turn back from his path. When Connla lands on the shores of Ulster, his immense prowess terrifies the local warriors. Refusing to give his name due to his mother's geasa, he is branded a dangerous invader. Ultimately, Ulster’s greatest champion is called to the beach: Cú Chulainn himself. Father and son face each other, completely blind to the truth. Because Connla stands firm like stone, Cú Chulainn perceives him as a mortal threat and unleashes the unstoppable, terrifying Gáe Bolga. Only as the barbed spear rips through the boy's chest does Connla breathe his final word: "Father..." 📜 Lyrics I sang to the tide in the shadow of dawn, When the war was over, but the silence was wrong, Cú Chulainn, you left with the red of the fight, And I stayed with a child born of fire and night. I named him Connla, my heart, mo chroí (my heart), With the storm in his blood and the pull of the sea, I knew he would walk where the spear shadows fall, A son of a hero… a child of it all. Oh Connla, mo leanbh (my child), hear what I say, The world is a blade that will not turn away, Three geasa I give you, carved deep in your name, To carry your honor, to carry your flame. First, hide your name ‘til the end of your breath, For names are a door that may open to death, Second, refuse not the call of the blade, For warriors are forged in the vows that are made. Third, never turn from the path that you tread, Though the sky may be burning and rivers run red, I kissed your brow with a tear and a prayer, “Mo mhac,” I whispered, “be stronger than despair.” Oh Connla, mo leanbh, bound to the wave, Your fate is a road no mother can save, Three geasa I gave you, and now I must see, If love is a chain… or a curse of the sea. They say you arrived where the Ulster men stand, A boy with the strength of a far older hand, No warrior could break you, no shield could remain, You danced through their ranks like a storm through the grain. And he came… oh he came, the hound of the land, Cú Chulainn with spear in his hand, Did he see in your eyes what I saw in your birth? Or just another foe to be cast in the earth? Did you feel it, a whisper, a blood-binding cry? Did your heart tremble though you did not know why? He asked you your name, but you stood like the stone, For geasa are chains no child can disown. Oh the Gáe Bolga sang through the air, A death-song no mortal was meant to outwear, And I felt it, I felt it, the tear of the thread, When the spear found my son… and my son fell dead. Too late came the truth on the edge of his breath, Too late for the living, too late for the death, “Father…” he whispered, and broke the dark veil, And the wind carried sorrow in one endless wail. Oh Connla, mo leanbh, forgive what I’ve done, The geasa I gave you have stolen my son, The sea does not answer, the sky does not see, If fate is a mercy… it was not for me. I am Cú Chulainn, breaker of men, But I would give all to be broken again, For the boy that I struck did not carry my name, Yet he carried my fire… my blood… and my shame. Oh Connla, mo mhac (my son), I did not know, That I was the hand that would lay you low, No victory song, no glory remains, Only a father… in infinite pain. The geasa I gave you have stolen my son... Only a father... in infinite pain... If fate is a mercy… it was not for me. 💿 Album Info Album: Hound of Ulaidh Artist/Channel: The Fionn's Cradle Track: 06 / 12 (The Tragic Bloodline) Musical Style: An intense and agonizing Dark Folk Metal Duet / Celtic Ballad. ⚠️ Disclaimer & Copyright Creator's Note: This channel is an independent passion project born out of a deep love for Irish history, Celtic mythology, and traditional folklore.
