Twitter @juangangel In this first chapter of the Colombian Criollo Breeds series, we explore two of them: the Romosinuano and the San Martinero. Their origins and characteristics are also reflected in the advantages they offer in local livestock production, due to their hardiness and adaptation to the lowland tropics. There are several opinions regarding the origin of the Romosinuano breed: some believe it is the result of a cross between the Red Poll and the Costeño con Cuernos; others believe the breed originated from a cross between the Criollo and the Aberdeen Angus. However, carefully observing its characteristics, the Romosinuano is absolutely criollo and comes from a mutation of the Costeño con Cuernos, which in turn is derived from cattle brought by the Spanish during the Conquest (Pinzón et al., 1959).
