Summary: Without a doubt, Juan Larrea (Bilbao, March 13, 1895 – Córdoba, Argentina, July 9, 1980) is one of the most singular, influential, and elusive poets—and therefore also one of the most enigmatic or mysterious—of the early Spanish avant-garde. Hence the interest in this correspondence between Larrea and the British Hispanist Robert Gurney, author of a book on the poet finally published in 1985. This interest, incidentally, has been heightened by the meticulous and informed editorial work carried out by the Italian Hispanist Gabriele Morelli, one of the leading specialists in the Hispanic avant-garde.
