Exploring Jotunheimen's Legendary Trout Mecca

In their 1882 book "Three in Norway by Two of Them", the young English fly fishermen described remarkable catches from Lake Russvatnet in Jotunheimen — a long, remote mountain lake just north of one of Norway's most famous hiking destinations, Besseggen. In this Part 3 of Lars Lenth's and my journey following in their footsteps, we set out to explore this breathtaking lake and find out whether it still holds the trout that made it legendary 150 years ago. Was Russvatnet a better trout fishery back then than it is today? It's impossible to know. What we did discover, however, was that to encounter trout of the same impressive size as those described by the English adventurers, we had to return to where our journey began —Sel in the Gudbrandsdalen Valley. Join us for another chapter of this historical fly-fishing adventure through the spectacular mountains of Jotunheimen. #flyfishing #visitnorway #troutfishing #mountainfishing #ørret #fluefiske #riverfishing
