#24 Cycling Switzerland to Southeast Asia: No Entry to Kyrgyzstan!

This week, we continued on the Pamir Highway from Murghab, climbing the 4,650-meter Ak-Baital Pass. The ride was tough, but the view from the top made it all worth it. From there, we descended to Qarokul, a high-altitude lake surrounded by mountains — a quiet, breathtaking place. I (Hemad) then rode toward the Kyzyl-Art border, hoping to enter Kyrgyzstan. Sadly, my visa was rejected, and we couldn’t continue. Saying goodbye to friends and adjusting our plans was tough. With no other choice, we began the long ride back to Dushanbe, over 1,200 km. On the way, we passed through the Wakhan Valley and the Wakhan Corridor, a narrow strip bordered by Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Small villages, rivers, and mountains made the journey unforgettable. We were lucky to send our bikes ahead and hitchhike with kind people who helped along the way. The ride back was full of reflection, stunning scenery, and a reminder of how unpredictable and rewarding long-distance cycling in Tajikistan can be.
