GCR Passenger Trains Return to Rushcliffe Halt
Welcome to part 8 of this series on the reunification of the Great Central Railways in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. We're at the northern base again today - the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. It's almost Christmas and this weekend sees the start of the Great Central Railway Nottinghams Jingle Bells express service. The first passenger services to make it further than fifty steps bridge and on to Rushcliffe Halt. Running the service is a class 107 first generation DMu, on loan from Nemesis Rail at Burton on Trent. Also this week we have been the DMU carry out a test run as far as Loughborough and the brand new A60 bridge, making it the first passenger train to make it as far as the end of the line. We hear from Tom Ingall about the current state of the Reunification and what we can expect next. Whilst we are at the NTHC (Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre) we are able to take a look around, ride on the incredibly detailed minature railway system, see the model railways on show, the vintage buses on display and have a snack in the cafe. We end the video featuring the service pulling into and leaving Rushcliffe Halt station as the sun sets for the last service of the day. You can donate to the reunification project here - https://www.gcrailway.co.uk/unify/ The Great Central Mainline was built as the London Extension of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire railway. Opening in 1899, it was designed to be as straight as possible with as little gradient as possible. Speed was the aim and express trains travelled between London Marylebone, Leicester, Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester. It was the last UK mainline to be built before HS1 over a century later. It thrived initially, however with a lack of upkeep, neglect and dwindling usage, it was mothballed during the great railway rationalisation of Dr Beeching in the 1960s - known as the Beeching Axe. @GCRofficial @emrtofficial Become a channel member - https://www.youtube.com/wobblyrunner/...
