I Walked Leicester’s Lost Train Line (What’s Left Is Fascinating)

I set out to trace the old Great Central Railway on foot — from Great Central Station in Leicester as it once was, right through what’s left of the route today 🚂👣 That station? Long gone. Now reborn as The Lanes, an entertainment venue sitting right on top of history 🎳🍻 Large parts of the railway have been demolished, built over, or forgotten… but not all of it 👀 In this video I run, walk, explore and follow the line as best I can, uncovering the hidden bits that still survive — bridges, alignments, clues in the landscape and proper “how is this still here?” moments 🏗️🧱 This isn’t a polished history lesson. It’s boots on the ground, curiosity-led exploring — seeing Leicester differently and asking what used to be here, and why it mattered 🗺️ If you like: • Hidden local history • Old railways & lost infrastructure • Urban exploring (the legal kind 😅) • Seeing familiar places in a totally new way You’ll enjoy this one. 📍 Leicester 🚂 Great Central Railway 👟 All done on foot ✍️ John Ghent woz ere
