On June 30, around 12:10 p.m., a woman identified as Pooja Giri was assigned the cleaning job through the app. At the time, a 55-year-old man was alone at home. She completed the cleaning work and left. Minutes later, she dialed the police emergency helpline (112) and alleged that the homeowner had sesually assaulted and r@ped her. According to the police investigation, the woman then contacted the victim's son and allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh, threatening that if the money was not paid immediately, she would file a formal rape complaint, send the family to jail, and destroy their reputation. The family suddenly found itself facing both a serious criminal allegation and an alleged extortion attempt. But the story took a dramatic turn. Instead of giving in to the pressure, the victim's son acted wisely. He told the woman he was willing to pay and arranged a meeting. When she allegedly arrived to collect an initial payment of ₹2 lakh, he secretly recorded the entire conversation and money exchange on his mobile phone. He immediately handed over the recording to the police. After conducting a detailed investigation, Dwarka Sector-23 Police concluded that the PCR call was false and that the alleged rape accusation was made solely to extort money from the family. The woman was arrested, and the ₹2 lakh allegedly received through blackmail was recovered. A court has since sent her to judicial custody. Police investigations also revealed that Pooja Giri had previously visited the same house for cleaning assignments, meaning she was already familiar with the family and the premises. This case is not just about one family—it serves as a warning for thousands of people who regularly invite unknown service providers into their homes through mobile apps. It raises important questions about trust, verification, and customer safety in the rapidly growing app-based domestic service industry. At the same time, it is equally important to remember that the alleged actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the reputation of thousands of honest domestic workers who earn their livelihood through hard work.
