My trip to Tal Afar was a deep journey full of unforgettable memories. When I took my first step, I felt an atmosphere on the streets of the city, steeped in the pain of the past but still full of hope. In this ancient Turkmen city of Iraq, the hospitality and resilient looks of the people really impressed me. The tribal leader I met during my trip was a respected person who represented the memory and culture of the people of the region. In our conversations with him, I listened to the conflicts Tal Afar experienced in the past and how the people managed to survive in unity. Seeing people stick together and stay strong in these lands made me feel how valuable their cultural heritage is. Also, I had the opportunity to taste traditional Turkmen dishes. The care and sharing in the preparation of each meal symbolized the strong social ties of the people of the region. Along with the food, the way this culture was kept alive was also admirable. Even though Tal Afar is full of pain, it is a place that amazes people with its resilience and devotion to life. This trip gave me the opportunity to get to know not only a city, but also the strength, hope and culture of a people. I will always carry with me the deep impressions I received from here.
