Muslim Arabs who came to China to spread their religion quickly adapted to living alongside the local people and succeeded in influencing the Chinese community in social life. Furthermore, due to the turmoil in China in the 8th century, thousands of Muslim soldiers sent by the Umayyads to aid them did not return, but instead began living in China and marrying Chinese. As a result of these marriages, the Muslim race emerged, and they held important positions in the state until the 16th century. It is even rumored that the Ming Dynasty, founded in the 13th century, was Muslim. Today, 10 of the 56 ethnic groups in China are Muslim.
