In his new Philadelphia studio, Thomas Dillon shares his intuitive approach to painting and reflects on the creative process behind his latest body of work. Guided by instinct and curiosity, Dillon speaks about how his environment shapes his practice and how his paintings evolve through gesture, material, and meaning. This video offers a glimpse into the artist’s world as he prepares for his upcoming exhibition, ‘The Raw and the Cooked’, opening at Opera Gallery Dubai from 23 October – 17 November 2025. Borrowing its title from Claude Lévi-Strauss’s seminal text, the exhibition explores the interplay between instinct and intellect, chaos and form, testing the boundaries of painting as both a personal and conceptual pursuit.
