ANNIHILATED! GM Remanufactured Silverado 6.0L Engine DESTROYED After Just 5 Years!
To buy parts or search our inventory visit www.Importapart.com or email us at [email protected] Today I'm tearing down an engine I've torn down hundreds of times. A regular old 6.0L Gen4 GM V8. HOWEVER, this is a GM Remanufactured engine from 2019 and it is probably the worst 6.0L I've ever torn down. Most of the core LS architecture engines I get in have damage but nothing close to this level. So why did it fail so badly? Was this intentional? was something wrong from the very beginning? Was someone else inside of this engine? This is the LY6, an iron block engine found in the 07+ Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500, savanna and express 2500 and 3500. This engine is from a 2007 Silverado 2500 and since its a remanufactured engine, I don;'t know how many miles are on it, but from the date codes, its only 5 years old! Yikes! So, why am I doing this? My name is Eric and I own and run Importapart. We are a full service auto dismantler and part of our model includes buying core or bad engines to dismantle and salvage the good parts for resale. 1999+ GM V8 engines are our bread and butter and we probably dismantle 100-150 of these engines a year. Normally I don't make videos on these as I have done so many in the past BUT this one was exceptionally terrible and I had to show everyone. 00:00 Intro 03:03 Removing and inspecting the plugs. ITS BAD ALREADY 04:21 Unbolting the broken intake manifold and looking at the intake ports 05:39 Zipping the bolts out of the exhaust manifolds to remove them 06:32 Peeling off the LH Valve cover 07:13 Cracking the rocker arm bolts loose, removing them and pushrods 07:49 SPARKLES 08:20 Cracking the deadbolts loose 08:51 Pulling the LH Cylinder head off. OH MY! 09:43 THIS THING IS POOCHED! 11:15 Science! 11:53 Looking at the cylinder head. Its not good! Not bad, but not good 12:25 Unbolting the RH Valve cover 12:56 Removing and inspecting the valve train from the RH Bank 14:09 Cracking the RH Head bolts loose 14:34 Pulling the Right Cylinder Head off 15:07 THE HORROR 17:09 Unbolting and removing the valley cover 17:40 Extracting the lifters from their bores, MORE MAYHEM 19:19 Removing and CAREFULLY HANDLING the water pump. I promise 20:02 Taking the harmonic balancer off, Weighted 24mm Socket and puller 21:43 Unbolting the front timing cover. More RED Flags 23:34 THE OIL PAN IS OFF, and its GRUESOME 23:53 The contents of the oil pan, there's a lot here. 27:45 Turning the engine over to expose the split-design windage tray 30:12 We discover, this engine is a GM REMAN and its from 2019! 31:03 First look at the remains of the rotating assembly 31:41 Unbolting the remaining rods and pistons 34:54 Removing and dismantling the Oil Pump. Why is this here? 36:58 Zipping the main cap bolts out to remove the damaged crankshaft 38:21 The crank is out! 39:02 Pushing the piston remnants out of their bores 40:23 Sliding the camshaft out 41:05 Complete bottom end inspection/autopsy. ITS ALL WRECKED! Everything! Rods, Pistons, Bearings, Crank, Cam, Block, ALL OF IT 50:05 Summary I really hope you enjoyed this teardown, as always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one! -Eric
