VN24 - June 22, 2026 - Soest, A44 / Germany - On A44 interstate in the early morning hours around 5:40 a.m. at kilometer 119 between the Soest and Werl-Süd junctions, a truck driver lost control of his semi-truck and veered right across the shoulder into the guardrail, crushing it down for about 50 meters, then ended up behind it and continued for another approximately 80 meters along the grassy shoulder until its tractor unit crashed into a small stream and became stuck there. The truck remained there until its scheduled recovery at 8:00 p.m. that evening during a time of light traffic. A Four-wheel-drive MB Unimog from the recovery company UNITEC then used its winch—with the assistance of a loading crane—to pull the semi-truck all the way back onto the asphalt, where the damaged wreck could be towed away. The driver, who was uninjured, stated at the scene that a front tire on the tractor unit had burst, causing him to veer onto the grassy shoulder... The German freight forwarding company, whose name is visible on the tarp, had previously sold the trailer to a company in the Czech Republic and was no longer the owner.
