VN24 - January 20, 2026 - Ascheberg A1 / Germany - (Part 2 of 2) Recovery of the wreckage. On the A1 motorway, there was a very serious rear-end collision at the end of a traffic jam near the “Im Mersch” service station at kilometer 296 northbound in the direction of Bremen. The 32-year-old driver of an empty car transporter crashed into the almost stationary semi-truck of a 62-year-old man. The cab was torn off at the rear and completely destroyed. Miraculously, rescue workers were able to free him from his predicament after 1.5 hours with only minor injuries and fly him to a hospital by rescue helicopter, as you can see in Part 1. He has already been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. Until the early evening hours, the specialist company Hülsmann was busy clearing the debris from the accident and cleaning diesel and oil from the road. Special cleaning machines were used for some of this work.
