Like Father, Like Son: The Weaver Family Murders That Spanned Generations

In 1981, police in California uncovered a disturbing crime when a young woman’s body was found buried in the backyard of a long-haul truck driver named Ward Francis Weaver Jr. The victim, 23-year-old Barbara Levoy, had been kidnapped, assaulted, and murdered after Weaver offered her and her boyfriend help on a deserted highway. Shockingly, Weaver buried her remains on his own property: a grim act that would later prove to be a terrifying pattern rather than a one-time crime. Two decades later, that pattern resurfaced in Oregon City. In January 2002, twelve-year-old Ashley Pond vanished while walking to school. Just two months later, her close friend Miranda Gaddis disappeared the same way. As the community searched desperately for answers, one neighbor seemed unusually eager to help, Ashley’s friend’s father, Ward Weaver III. He spoke to the media, welcomed cameras into his home, and even gave interviews while standing on a concrete slab in his backyard... unknowingly positioned directly above Ashley’s grave. When police finally searched the property, they discovered Ashley’s body sealed inside a barrel beneath the slab, and Miranda’s remains hidden nearby. Weaver III was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Years later, the cycle continued when his son, Francis Weaver, was convicted of murder in an unrelated case, marking three generations connected to homicide.
